Library Card FAQ
Can I get a card?
One card will be issued to anyone who meets any of the following eligibility requirements:
- Boone County, Kentucky, resident
- Boone County, Kentucky, property owner
- Teacher employed by a Boone County, Kentucky, public or private school
- Business located in Boone County, Kentucky
- Student enrolled full-time in a Boone County, Kentucky, public or private school
- Library staff member
- Library volunteer
- Current cardholder with a SWON or PLANK (Boone, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatan, Grant, Kenton, Owen, and Pendleton) library.
- Any person who does not meet the above eligibility requirements may purchase a card for $25.00 for one year.
Why should I get a card?
- Card holders may borrow materials from any BCPL branch
- Reserve items not immediately available
- Obtain titles which BCPL does not own via Inter-Library Loan
- Borrow materials from SWON and PLANK (Boone, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatan, Grant, Kenton, Owen, and Pendleton) consortia members
How do I use my card?

What is my library account number?
Your library account number is the 12-digit number located on the back of your library card.
What is my password?
Your password is initially set to the last four digits of your Social Security number, but you may change it whenever you want. You need your password to access your library account over the Internet. If you forget your password, please call your local branch.
May I check-out reference materials with my card?
No, reference materials do not circulate.
What are my responsibilities?
The individual to whom a library card is issued assumes full responsibility for all items borrowed with that card. The parent or guardian who signs the application for a juvenile card is responsible for all items borrowed with that card.
Can I let others use my card?
A library card is non-transferable and may be used only by the individual to whom it is issued.
Do cards expire?
Yes. Library cards expire periodically to provide an opportunity to verify and update customer information. Most cards expire every three (3) years. Exceptions include non-resident cards, business cards, and teacher cards, which expire after one (1) year.
Suspension
Borrowing privileges may be suspended for non-returned items, unpaid fees, a change in eligibility, or upon request of the customer.
