  1. Dear Boone County Libraries,
I have a question to ask about the Grand prize. Will only one person win? Or will 12 people win on prize each?
Thank you so much for the Summer Reading!

  2. Hello Madeline: A new name will be drawn for each grand prize. No one will win more than one. You are welcome! We are happy to hear that you enjoy our Summer Reading program!

  3. Thanks Becky!
I have another question. Can you split up ten hours to get two books, do the fifteen hours two times to get ten library bucks and six chances for the Grand Prize drawings, and things like that?

  4. How do you know that I have read, listened to or watched something?

  5. What sort of “activities” will the pre-readers (birth to age 4) have to complete?

  6. • Read for 15 minutes.
    • Dance and sing together.
    • Point out shapes and letters.
    • Share a nursery rhyme.
    • Play a pretend game (post office, house, school, ice-cream shop, etc.)
    • Paint or draw a picture.
    • Work on a puzzle.
    • Talk about what you did today, or tell a story at meal time.
    • Attend a storytime or program at the Library or park.
    • Go on a nature walk and collect objects you find.

  7. Hi Madeline: There is a limit of one book per person. You get the book after the first 5 hours of reading.
After you read an additional 5 hours for a total of 10 hours, you get a set of coupons to local businesses. Limit of one set of coupons per person.
If you choose to read another 5 hours, for a total of 15 hours, you earn 5 library bucks and three entries in the grand prize drawings.
After 15 hours, you don’t earn prizes any more, you just continue to earn entries in the prize drawings at a rate of one entry per every 5 hours of reading. –Becky

  8. Hi! I’m very excited for this years summer reading! How do we register online? I clicked the tab but it just takes me to the library home page. Thanks!

  9. Hi Averie: We are glad to hear you are excited about Summer Reading. Registration opens on June 1. You will register on the home page on that day, or any day after until August 31. The link will be on the home page in the story about Summer Reading.

  10. The registration system says family, but doesn’t offer a means to attach my spouse. Only children.

  11. For the Adults; “Everything you read, watch, or listen to earns one Library Buck”
Does this include music and DVDs this year?

  12. Yes! Because our collection includes music and DVDs, we invite you to watch or listen to them as well as read books to earn Library Bucks and chances for the weekly and end of summer drawings.

  13. Hi Tim: You can add your spouse by linking her to your family account. She needs to set up her account and give you her log-in and passwords. Then when you go to “Add child or link account,” you select link account and enter her information. Then you will be able to access and post in all of your family’s reading logs. We can help you with this, if you would like. Feel free to call any of our locations at 859-342-2665, or stop by one of our buildings and a staff member will set this up for you.

  14. Yes! You can count the time your kids, K-12, spend listening to audio books, too!

  15. I will be unable to attend the book sales on June 24-25 because I will be out of town. Will there still be books for sale at the library branches to spend the library bucks I’ve earned? Or when will the next book sale be? Thanks!

  16. Hi Melissa: We don’t have another book sale scheduled at this time, but all of our locations have a book sale shelf that you can browse and shop from anytime the library is open. The one at the Main Library is to the right when you enter the Library, it’s next to the stairway. The book sale shelf at the Scheben Branch is to the left when you enter the building and it is also beside a stairway.

  17. I have a question! I was trying to get the next book in a series to read for summer reading, but when I tried to place it on hold it wouldn’t work. I tried a different book and it worked, but the only difference was the library it was at. Why can’t I place any holds from the Florence library, and will I be able to again? Thanks so much for the help:)

  18. Hi Averie: I apologize for the inconvenience, but the Florence Branch is closed for two weeks while we put in a new heating/air conditioning service and replace the carpet. The system won’t let you put a book on hold right now that is on the shelf at the Florence Branch because we don’t have access to those books until we reopen the branch on Sunday, July 16. You can go into the system on July 16 and place the book on hold.

  19. Hi! Do we have to obtain our library bucks at local branch to use them toward fines?

  20. Hi Sarah: Stop in at any library branch; our staff will look up your summer reading account and give you your library bucks. Then you can have them look up your library card account and pay the fine with the bucks.

  21. Hi, I was wondering about the adult reading program. Because I am filling it out online I am wondering if I am automatically put into the prize drawings or if I need to come in to do that?
