Arts Discovery and Exploration Weekend

…where dancers, actors, musicians, and poets perform for free for everyone…

Through the support and generosity of more than 35,000 contributors to the ArtsWave Community Campaign, Boone County Public Library is celebrating the arts through a full Arts Discovery and Exploration Weekend.

 Boone County Public Library
1786 Burlington Pike, Burlington
Saturday, September 28 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Sunday, September 29 from 1:30 – 3 p.m.

We begin the weekend with a performance by the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra: Traveling Strings. The Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra string trio leads you through a program that highlights the evolution of music with a quick survey through music history!

The Cincinnati Opera Company brings their Opera Express Bus to the Library for the very first time! The Opera Express show is a 15-minute performance full of opera favorites! Follow along as they take you on a behind-the-scenes look of how an opera is made. You will go through the audition process, a dress rehearsal, and a final performance, complete with arias from opera favorites, such as “The Barber of Seville,” “The Pearl Fishers,” and “La Traviata.” There will be four of these mini-performances during the two-hour period. *Please note: space for these performances is limited to the first 30 people per session.*

Have you ever wanted to watch a Shakespeare play but didn’t have the time for a full production? The Cincinnati Shakespeare Company’s professional Touring Company presents the best of the Bard’s sonnets, scenes and monologues from classics like Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Macbeth. This is the perfect opportunity for all ages to experience some of Shakespeare’s most popular works for the first time or the fifty-first time!

The written word is one of the oldest and most widely practiced art forms in the world. Current Cincinnati Poet Laureate Manuel Iris will read his own poetry and answer some of the burning questions you may have about the writing process and his own inspiration as a poet!

The Cincinnati Ballet is one of the top regional dance companies in the United States. For more than fifty years, they have been a staple in the Greater Cincinnati Area. On Sunday, you will have the opportunity to see Cincinnati Ballet’s In-step, an interactive 50-minute program featuring members of Cincinnati Ballet’s professional training division. The dancers provide an exciting peek into the typical day in the life of a professional ballet dancer. They will perform excerpts from the Company repertoire in the intimacy of the Library!

In addition to all of the activities already mentioned, the Curt Bessette Art Gallery will have “Lasting Impressions,” prints by Kathleen Piercefield on exhibit.
