Let’s play Two Truths and a Lie. My name is Samantha, and I have three facts for debate: 1) I listen to heavy metal. 2) I am naturally a red-head. 3) My husband is 15 inches taller than me.
I’ve been working at BCPL for only 8 months, but have been a part of BCPL for so much longer! As a kid, I spent a lot of time at the Lents Branch, both for myself, and tagging along as my mom has been in the Chick Picks book club for 19 years. The library has always been a part of my life, but I never knew how big that piece would become. I started out at UC studying architecture, but after two years, I ran away (screaming) to NKU, where I graduated in 2016 with a Bachelors in Fine Arts, having studied graphic design plus some painting, ceramics, and screen printing on the way.
After graduating, I worked for a local company designing a myriad of items for them. But when the Boone Innovation Lab at the Hebron Branch was set to open, and the position to work with all the creative machinery became available, I couldn’t pass it up! My job now not only entails my own creative process, but helping others realize what they can create. And I get to use a sewing machine, photo cube, 3-D printer, form box and so much more! In my spare time, my husband (Damian) and I watch sci-fi movies, historical dramas, and medical dramas; (we are watching Scrubs for the 4th time currently!). We also go to concerts, specifically METAL! Most recently we saw The Hu, a Mongolian metal band at The Taft. Also this past year, we saw Iron Maiden, Breaking Benjamin and 3 Days Grace. Some of our favorite shows have been Rob Zombie (seen 5 times), Seether (seen 4 times), Gojira (seen once, but they are great!), InFlames (seen twice), and Breaking Benjamin (seen 4 times).
Damian and I have been married for just over a year, and have been together for almost 6 years. Our wedding was at the Cincinnati Art Museum, and before our ceremony, we were given an hour to wander the closed museum and take photos. If you look at the photo, you can see that Damian is quite a bit taller than I, 6’4 to my 5’1, which makes him 15 inches taller than me!
Which brings us to the end of the game, the lie. I am not naturally a red-head, though sometimes I wish I was! My mother has bright red hair, and for years, I dyed my hair red as well. Red isn’t the only color I’ve tried though; in the past it has been blue, green, and even purple.
So come visit me at the Hebron Branch! I can help you tap into your creative side and teach you to use the machinery in the Boone Innovation Lab. Or maybe just discuss heavy metal!
